The Usher Ministry reflects a willingness to serve God and a commitment to Christ with a smile on your face. The ministry is one of hospitality and enhances the beauty of the liturgy by becoming an instrument through whom God may be present to those who worship.

As the first person parishioners interact with, your warm smile is an important sign that all are welcome, accepted and loved at Our Lady of Sorrows.

The ministry primarily greets and seats the congregation for Mass, directs parishioners during the Communion procession, passes the offertory baskets and distributes bulletins after Mass. Ushers maintain decorum and handle emergencies that might arise at a liturgical function.

Volunteers must be prepared and trained before participating as an Usher.

Requirements

• Must satisfy the Volunteer Requirements and be Commissioned by the parish

• Commit to a monthly schedule, arriving at least 15 minutes before your scheduled Mass

• Be at least 17 years old

• Must be a confirmed Catholic in good standing or enrolled in a Confirmation program

• Aattire and manner should reflect your role as a guide for others at Mass; wear your ID badge at all scheduled Masses
